Congratulations to Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Professor Melissa Lodoen, who has been named the 2018 Dolph O. Adams awardee by the Society for Leukocyte Biology. Her research, which focuses on the role of monocytes and macrophages in host defense during Toxoplasma gondii infection, is in line with the goal of this important award- to recognize an impactful immunologist and leukocyte biologist.

CMB faculty members Maksim Pilkus, PhD and Xing Dai, PhD, along with Quing Nie will blend cutting-edge, single-cell techniques with mathematical modeling to study wound healing, with the goal of integrating into one modeling framework all major skin cell types to allow computational prediction of the elusive conditions necessary for regeneration.

Lead author Paolo Sassone-Corsi, Donald Bren Professor of Biological Chemistry at UCI’s School of Medicine, first showed the circadian rhythm-metabolism link some 10 years ago, identifying the metabolic pathways through which circadian proteins sense energy levels in cells.

Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Professor David Fruman has published a new manuscript in the journal Science Translational Medicine. In the paper, Professor Fruman and colleagues identify an alternative anti-cancer benefit of statins- drugs normally prescribed for treating high cholesterol.
