Graduate Student Financial Support

Highly qualified applicants are considered for prestigious awards that supplement the stipend in the first year of study. These include the School of Biological Sciences Dean’s Graduate Fellowship Award, sponsored by the School of Biological Sciences, and other awards sponsored by Graduate Division.

First and second year students are encouraged to apply for National Science Foundation GRFP awards. Information can be found on the website of Grad Division. Additional information about the Broader Impacts criteria is provided in the following files:

Training Grants

UCI maintains several NIH-funded training grants that support graduate students, usually in years two or later of PhD studies. Click HERE for details.

Funding is contingent upon the student making satisfactory progress toward the degree and securing a home lab by July 1, after entering the gateway program.

GPS-STEM

A Program for STEM Trainees

Graduate Professional Success in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (GPS-STEM) program started in October 2019 is sponsored by Schools of Biological Sciences, Engineering, Physical Sciences and Provost Office. The program serves both PhD students and Postdoctoral fellows from all STEM disciplines.
